The National Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) is encouraging Filipinos to join their #Pagyanig Challenge in line with the Nationwide Earthquake Drill on September 28 in Barangay San Francisco, Biñan, Laguna.
NDRRMC hopes that their #Pagyanig Challenge will promote the ‘duck, cover, and hold’ technique. To participate, simply post on social media a photo of yourself doing the said technique along with the hashtag #Pagyanig.
The #Pagyanig Challenge is part of the third Nationwide Earthquake Drill participated by schools, government offices, public and private establishments in preparation for ‘the big one’ or a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that may be caused by the West Valley Fault. The earthquake drill will prepare the Filipinos for different scenarios such as the collapsing of structures and buildings, fire, road accidents, and chemical spills.
NDRRMC chose Barangay San Francisco, Biñan, Laguna as the venue for the drill because it will be one of the emergency operations centers aside from Region 3 when Metro Manila becomes inaccessible or ‘paralyzed’ after the earthquake.
Some parts of Laguna is also traversed by the West Valley Fault which cuts through Marikina and Cavite.
