NCCA Leads Immersive Journey into Philippine Heritage for NHM 2026 | Bringing Philippine heritage to life through vision and lived experience, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) reimagines the celebration of National Heritage Month (NHM) 2026.
Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 439, the NCCA spearheads this year’s observance under the theme “Roots and Horizons: Our Shared Heritage, Our Collective Future.” The theme invites Filipinos to look back with pride at the roots of our history and culture, while looking forward with hope and responsibility toward the future we are building together.
As its opening initiative, the NCCA mounts a Heritage Tour Press Event on April 30, 2026, designed as an on-site, experiential engagement with members of the media and cultural advocates. Rather than a conventional press setting, the activity unfolds as a guided tour across key heritage spaces, positioning storytelling within the very environments where history is preserved and lived.
The press tour includes visits to the “The Poet of Concrete” exhibit at the University of Santo Tomas, the Philippine International Convention Center, and as a highlight, heritage properties within the Malacañang Complex, including the Teus Mansion, Bahay Ugnayan, and Goldenberg Mansion. These sites, recognized for their historical and cultural significance, serve as anchors for a narrative that connects architectural heritage with national identity.
By bringing participants directly into these heritage environments, the NCCA underscores the role of media as vital partners in translating cultural experiences into meaningful public narratives. This immersive format aims to deepen understanding of how heritage is not only preserved but also continually reinterpreted within contemporary life.
Through this initiative, the NCCA hopes to strengthen public engagement with heritage sites and cultural programs, broaden awareness of the value of built heritage, and amplify conversations on identity, memory, and nation-building across media platforms.
The Heritage Tour Press Event marks the beginning of the month-long celebration of National Heritage Month 2026, with a series of programs and activities to be held nationwide throughout May, encouraging the public to actively participate in rediscovering and honoring the country’s rich cultural legacy.
