“You don’t need drugs to have fun. Enjoy the music. Enjoy the moment.”
This was one of the comments to a Facebook post of Closeup, main organizer of the ‘Forever Summer’ event held at the SM Mall of Asia grounds yesterday, May 21st.
In a statement it released on its official and verified Facebook page on Sunday, Closeup, the subsidiary of Unilever, and its activation agency, Activations Advertising and Eventscape, its staging agency, confirmed that there were attendees of its Closeup Forever Summer concert on Saturday in Pasay City who have died. Specifics were not yet readily available as of this time as to how many exactly died and as to the cause of deaths.
But according to a Twitter post by GMA News Breaking, there were four victims: three male, one female. And Philstar.com also reported that “Nasa labas pa po ang mga imbestigador. Wala pa pong cause of death,” as told by a city police official.
Closeup, however, reportedly provided medical assistance and rushed “all those involved to the nearest hospital” for emergency care.
The Unilever company is said to be “fully cooperating with the authorities in the ongoing police investigations.”
As investigations are still underway, some people on the Closeup Facebook page have speculated a “spiked drink” that might caused the deaths during the event, but this remains to be verified.
Videos during the event (via Closeup FB page):
“The Last Ever Closeup Forever Summer!”
“Now or never”
Here’s the full statement from Closeup in its Facebook page on the event:
Closeup and its organizing agency, Activations Advertising, and staging agency, Eventscape, are deeply saddened by the events that transpired on the early hours of May 22, 2016.
We regret that despite the very stringent measures and precautions we have put in place to ensure the safety and security of all attendees involved, this incident still transpired. As such, strict protocols were followed to immediately provide medical assistance, as well as rush all those involved to the nearest hospital where they can receive emergency care.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of those who’ve passed away, and commit support in their time of bereavement. Likewise, our efforts are now focused on supporting those needing medical assistance so they may fully recover.
We are fully cooperating with the authorities in the ongoing police investigations.
