Tourist Rest Area for Moalboal Inaugurated | Moalboal, Cebu’s best diving spot, will get more tourists after the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) opened a Tourist Rest Area in its town on Wednesday (Dec. 20).
The event was led by Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia, Moalboal Mayor Inocentes G. Cabaron, and John Peter Calderon from the 7th District of Cebu. Christina Garcia Frasco is the Secretary of Tourism.
The Tourist Rest Area was built in a smart way along the national highway in Barangay Tunga so that it can serve tourists who come to Moalboal to see the beautiful sardine run at Panagsama Beach.
Moaboal also has ecotourism spots like Bullo Spring, Batadbatad Falls, the Magpayong Rocks Formation, and Busay Cave. It also has dive spots like Tongo Point, Tuble Marine Sanctuary, and Talisay Wall.
DOT Undersecretaries Mae Elaine T. Bathan, Ferdinand Jumapao, and Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar were also at the event, as well as Atty. Annavie Lapitan, Judilyn Quiachon, and Ronald Conopio, who are the directors of the central office.
Last December 18, Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, Deputy Speaker Duke Frasco, and Carmen Municipal Mayor Carlo Mariano T. Villamor led the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the TRA, which is strategically built along the Cebu North Road, making it easily accessible to visitors on a road trip to northern Cebu tourist attractions like Sogod, San Remigio, Medellin, Bantayan, and Daanbantayan, and Bogo.
The Marcos Administration’s flagship project, the TRA, was created by Secretary Frasco and implemented by the Department of Tourism and its infrastructure arm, the TIEZA – Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority, to give travelers a place to rest, charge devices, buy pasalubong, and use the restrooms and breastfeeding station for free.
Tourists can acquire information about neighboring destinations from the TRAs, which the DOT considers crucial to making travel safer and more convenient.
The Carmen TRA is the sixth of 10 TRAs launched by the DOT in 2022, meaning it is open and available for travelers.
Provincial Board Member Andrei Red Duterte, Carmen Vice Mayor Mike Villamor, and DOT officials Shahlimar Hofer Tamano, Mae Elaine T. Bathan, Shereen Gail Yu-Pamintuan, Myra Paz Abubakar, Ferdinand Jumapao, Assistant Secretary Gissela Romualdez-Quisumbing, and Central Office Directors Annavie Lapitan, Judilyn Quiachon, and Ronald Conopio attended the ceremony.
