Marco Sison, celebrated primarily as a quintessential balladeer, is back and is finally staging his first ever solo major concert, Seasons of OPM, on July 25 at The Theatre of Solaire, Paranaque City.
Commemorating his 45 years in the industry this year, the music icon said, he felt that it is high time for him to celebrate the Filipino music as well as pay tribute to OPM which has embraced him to be one of the stalwarts. Hailed as a quintessential balladeer with his smooth, soulful voice, Sison rose to prominence in the 1980s, with a string of timeless romantic hits that continue to resonate with listeners across generations. From his breakout song “Make Believe” to hit songs one after another, namely “My Love Will See You Through,” “I’ll Face Tomorrow,” and “Si Aida, Si Lorna, o si Fe” all have become cherished karaoke staples and OPM classics, cementing his status as a master interpreter of heartfelt emotions.
Joining him on stage will be an impressive lineup of guest artists, including fellow hitmakers Rey Valera and Nonoy Zuñiga, Martin Nieverra, and Vice Ganda, under the musical direction of the talented Maestro Louie Ocampo and with Calvin Neria serving as director.
Sison looks forward to treating his audience to a repertoire that spans different eras of OPM, including timeless classics and contemporary hits “from kundiman, where OPM started, to love songs and ballad of 70s, 80s, 90s and more.”
During the mini presscon for the upcoming concert, Sison revealed that his fans can expect fresh renditions of popular tracks such as “Pasilyo” by Sunkissed Lola, “Habang Buhay” by Zack Tabudlo, and “Raining In Manila” by Lola Amour. He admitted: “Challenging ang new OPM sounds, the GenZs included, pero kakayanin.”
Sison expressed happiness for finally getting back to his first love which is singing “and not just as Hurado” in the famed Tawag ng Tanghalan segment of “It’s Showtime.”
Of course, he loves the show and he’ll be more than willing to mentor newbies and Filipino talents via the noontime program, he said. And he is most thankful that because of Showtime, he is able to get the ‘Unkabogable’ star in his upcoming show.
“It started with a joke that Vice is willing to guest in my concert. So I took the offer seriously and I asked him to be one of my guests which which he readily agreed,” Sison narrated.
Likewise, he is thankful for Martin Nievara who readily come up with a script for the show!” We, will be using the script of course, with some additions and changes,” Marco said.
As for Zuniga and Valera, it’s definitely a reunion of sorts. “We’ll be missing fellow hit makers Hajji Alejandro and Rico Puno, of course, but they’re definitely irreplaceable. It’s an unwritten pact among us that whoever has concerts, all of us should guest the show,” Marco stressed.
Even decades into his career, Sison continues to perform, proving his unwavering appeal and affirming his irreplaceable presence in the rich tapestry of Filipino music.
